Seeing the opportunity in trauma

February 4th, 2012 by Tonya

I was talking to a friend a couple of days ago about some of the more character-building experiences in my life. He said it was kind of a shame that I'd had to go through the suffering associated with these events. It made me realise that, rather than feeling regret, I was grateful for these experiences, for each one of them had not only made me stronger in some way, but had also kind of 'shifted me up a level' in terms of my spiritual growth. And in a way, pain, if approached in the right way, can be a catalyst to our spiritual evolution. And that bleak state when it feels like everything has fallen apart in our life - perhaps our marriage breaks down, we lose our job or our house goes up in flames, or all three - when we are feeling raw and open, can often be a great opportunity. Take this little guy, for instance (above)... If he wasn't able to let go of his identity entirely and become cocooned in his chrysalis for what must seem an age in caterpillar terms, he would never become a beautiful butterfly with the freedom to explore new worlds Read More...

Spider, spider on the wall

January 31st, 2012 by Tonya

When I stumbled downstairs this morning (I had a working weekend and have never quite recovered) I nearly put my hand on a big, black spider crawling his way up the wall to meet me. Now as some of you may know, I'm quite into my animal symbology and this little fellow was bigger and blacker than your usual specimen Read More...

Ode to a light house

January 25th, 2012 by Tonya

'Finding our own light and shining it for others' is Louise Hay's definition of enlightenment. I rather like it. Because for me, it is only when we have found the light within - and we no longer need to look for inspiration or confirmation outside ourselves - that we can (more...)

An angel speaks

January 10th, 2012 by Tonya

The angel of integrity appeared to me yesterday. Well, it wasn't quite like that. One of my deck of angel cards (which I use from time to time to give me inspiration) - the integrity card - appeared out of the (more...)

Like the snow, the Christmas dross is melting…

December 18th, 2011 by Tonya

I love to go for late night walks around my local neighbourhood at this time of year. Simple semis are transformed into magical fairy castles, with sparkling lights adorning every tree. Tonight was particularly magical though, for me. I notice a different quality in the way people are decorating their houses this year Read More...

A little light on 2012

December 17th, 2011 by Tonya

I made my Christmas cards this year. They started off in the angelic realms with sketches and cutouts of cherubims and seraphims, but then came gradually down to earth with (more...)

The universe speaks in symbols

December 15th, 2011 by Tonya

It's not a unique thought: poets, mystics and philosophers throughout Earth's history have read meaning into symbols that appeared to them in day-to-day life. I however am constantly amazed by the way life speaks to me, even comforts me through symbols. Like today, for instance. I was travelling by train and, reflecting on aspects of my life at the time, found myself in an unusually fearful space Read More...

Cultivating the inner garden

November 28th, 2011 by Tonya

'Your life is a garden: water it with positive intent, weed it of any negativity and let the sunshine of loving thoughts shine down upon it. Then watch it grow!' That was one of the messages I wrote on Twitter last week (apt I thought that a website of the feathered variety have a presence there @_whitefeather) Read More...
